War of Genesis: Idle Loot First hour as a Commander
Install the overlay, pick a class, learn Equipment Forge, and decide how to spend your first Diamonds.
War of Genesis: Idle Loot is a free-to-play Windows overlay, not a fullscreen action RPG. Steam Early Access began 10 September 2026. You are a Commander: you park a 3D hero on the desktop, let stages clear themselves, and spend the minutes you do log in on inventory, synthesis, and Market decisions. This page is the first-hour sequence. For window placement and AFK etiquette, switch to How to Play after you survive install.
This Steam title is not War of Genesis: Idle Heroes on mobile and not the 1990s War of Genesis SRPG. There is no shared save, no shared gift code, and no cross-play. If a YouTube thumbnail promised a coupon from the phone game, read mobile versus Steam codes instead of typing it here.
Install the overlay, then read the warning
The store page lists Windows 10 or 11 64-bit only. There is no macOS or Linux client. Minimum hardware is modest (an i3-6100 class CPU, 8 GB RAM, DirectX 11), but the executable has shipped unsigned, so SmartScreen or antivirus can block the first launch. If the game never appears, follow system requirements and the notes on launch issues before you reinstall.
Login loops showed up in the opening days. If the Steam Login button does nothing, wait, restart Steam, and check the discussion board rather than buying a second copy. Double-purchase reports exist; treat the cash shop as hostile until your account is stable.
Pick Swordsman, Archer, or Mage
The Steam client UI names three classes: Swordsman, Archer, Mage. Community tools sometimes label the melee line Knight. Do not use Knight as the primary name when you are reading in-game tooltips. Combat is automatic, but the class still locks weapons and skill trees. A Swordsman cannot use a Hunter Bow. You can change characters later (there is even an achievement for doing it once), yet early Training gold and Ability Unlock ranks stick to whoever you feed.
Named heroes confirmed in screenshots include Ice Pendragon and Jane Shore. Do not expect a huge gacha roster on day one. Compare the three lines on the class hub, then drill into Swordsman, Archer, or Mage before you dump gold into a tree you will abandon.
Run Ancient Ruins, then open Equipment Forge
Stages start in Ancient Ruins on Normal. A typical early screenshot is Normal 4-2. Later chapters include Tropical Rainforest, Underground Prison, and Ice Castle, with Despair and Apocalypse sitting behind Normal. You do not need to clear Apocalypse in hour one. You do need to watch the bag.
Fourteen equipment slots fill fast: weapons, armor, accessories, plus jewels, pets, wings, runes, and magitech gear as drops appear. Tiers run 1 through 6. Open Equipment Forge (YouTube calls it the Blacksmith). The Combine tab states the rule in plain text: “Combine items of the same grade to obtain an item of the next grade.” Use Auto Register so you are not clicking every white drop. Dismantle leftovers. If the client pops “Not enough bag space,” AFK combat stalls until you free slots. Full synthesis detail lives in the Equipment Forge guide. Stage pacing lives in AFK farming.
Diamonds versus the Market
Players report roughly one Diamond every four hours. That currency lists items on the Steam Community Market. Once listed, the item can be traded with other Commanders and cannot be retrieved or deleted. Steam still takes Market fees. One creator sold a Tier 4 sword for a little over $2. That is not a business plan. The Steam Marketplace guide covers irreversible listings and rumored mailbox retrieval on the roadmap.
Join an Alliance before you walk away
The Battlefield window has three tabs: Arena, World Boss, and Raid. Arena shows Score, Rank, a participation reward, and time remaining. You can peek at it on day one, but the useful social step is joining an Alliance. Steam tracks that with the achievement “Make Way for the New Recruit.” Raids and World Boss expect a roster. See Raids and Arena once you have a tag.
Training Ground and Ability Unlock sit beside combat. Ranks go SSS, SR, UR, then LR. Do a few Training runs, then leave the overlay running while you work. Paid permanent buffs for ATK, DEF, EXP, gold, and drop rate exist; skip them until you have read the Early Access review and know the overlay is staying on your taskbar. Hour-one goal: a class, a Combine habit, an Alliance tag, and a Diamond you have not wasted.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Do I need to learn combat controls?
No. The hero auto-battles. Window placement, bag space, and class-locked weapons are the real skills. See How to Play.
Which class should I pick first?
Any of Swordsman, Archer, or Mage works for the overlay. Compare them on the class tier list and the class hub before you spend Training gold.
Why did my AFK run stop?
A full bag prints "Not enough bag space" and stalls combat. Combine or Dismantle in the Equipment Forge, then resume farming.
Should I list my first rare drop?
Only if you can spare a Diamond and accept that listings cannot be pulled back. Read Steam Marketplace first.
Is this the same account as Idle Heroes?
No. Mobile Idle Heroes does not share saves, codes, or cross-play with the Steam overlay. Details are on mobile versus Steam.
