War of Genesis: Idle Loot Swordsman class
Melee tab, Ice Pendragon as a named hero, and weapons the overlay will refuse.
Swordsman is the melee class tab in War of Genesis: Idle Loot. Combat is automatic, so you are not swinging the blade yourself. You are choosing the weapon family, the melee skill tree, and later a named hero portrait that sits on that tab. Steam Early Access began 10 September 2026. Opening-week ranks live on the class tier list; this page is the melee kit, the locks, and the gold you should not dump yet.
Compare this tree with Archer and Mage before you commit. The Classes Hub explains how named heroes differ from the three labels.
Ice Pendragon and the melee window
Official character screenshots put Ice Pendragon (white hair, plate, gauntlets) on the sheet with Swordsman / Archer / Mage tabs. Treat Ice Pendragon as a named hero you equip. The class is still Swordsman when that tab is selected. The same panel lists Base Attack Power, Base Defense, and Base HP; those numbers belong to that hero on that account, not to every Swordsman.
Roster slots under the tab unlock around user Lv.70 / 80 / 90. The Lv.70 portrait is dark hair and a red scarf—unnamed here. Character tiers 4 / 5 / 6 are collectible grades, not extra class names.
Community DPS tools sometimes label the melee tree as Knight; the client tab is Swordsman.
Weapons the overlay will refuse
Class-locked weapons are the first Swordsman lesson. Official toasts tell a melee hero You cannot use Hunter Bow. That bow is an Archer weapon. The same window can refuse a Wooden Quiver when the current hero is on the Swordsman tab. If a market listing or a stage drop looks like a bow, quiver, or other ranged off-hand, park it in storage or send it toward the Steam Marketplace guide instead of fighting the toast.
Melee weapons do appear on the Community Market. Listings such as Executioner’s Sword (a Tier 5, Lv.35 weapon in early catalogs) show the main-hand this tab wants. Community datamine and companion catalogs list 1,800+ items across 14 slots and tiers 1–6. Feed melee slots and let blacksmith synthesis eat the rest.
Automatic combat still has a melee job
The overlay clears stages with no combat controls. Swordsman does not become a clicker. What changes is range and the skill tree the auto-cast reads. Melee is the close-range family: useful if points lean into single-target hits for World Boss and Alliance Raids, less obvious for wide AFK trash. That split is why the class tier list ranks by AFK clear vs boss vs Arena instead of one S-rank.
Skill achievements fire when you learn a Lv.35, Lv.65, or Lv.95 skill. Training gold buys Attack, Defense, HP, and related lines on the character you wear. Do not dump that gold into a Swordsman you plan to abandon after the first Hunter Bow drop.
Loadouts, switching, and Early Access friction
A Steam review from the first days of Early Access is blunt: switching characters currently means re-setting weapons and skills because there are no character-specific loadouts. If you park Ice Pendragon, swap portraits, then come back, expect to rebuild the melee kit. Keep one Swordsman loadout in your notes until presets arrive.
You can change characters once for the “How About This One?” achievement without turning that alt into a second gold sink. Pets, wings, runes, and magitech gear are collectibles with their own tiers 4–6; they do not rewrite the weapon lock. Rank those on pets, wings, runes, and magitech after melee slots are filled.
Confirm the tab says Swordsman before you list a sword. Stash Hunter Bow and Wooden Quiver. Recheck the class tier list after the first balance note—this is opening-week guidance, not gospel. If the overlay refuses every interesting drop, flip to Archer or Mage with a plan for the rebuild, or stay melee and let the market take the bows.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Can a Swordsman use Hunter Bow?
No. Official toasts refuse Hunter Bow on the melee tab. That weapon belongs on Archer. Wooden Quiver can hit the same lock. List or store ranged drops instead of fighting the message.
Is Ice Pendragon the Swordsman class?
Ice Pendragon is a named hero shown with the Swordsman, Archer, and Mage tabs. When the Swordsman tab is selected, that is the class. The portrait is not a fourth label. See the Classes Hub for roster slots at Lv.70 / 80 / 90.
Should I spend Training gold on Swordsman in week one?
Only after you lock this as the main. Training gold is permanent and painful to waste if you reroll to Mage later. Read Getting Started for the first-hour gold loop, then commit.
Is Swordsman best for AFK, bosses, or Arena?
Unsettled. Melee may feel better on single-target bosses and raids; ranged or caster kits may sweep AFK stages faster. The class tier list ranks by role with honest uncertainty, not a single S-tier.
Why do I have to reset weapons when I swap heroes?
Early Access currently has no character-specific loadouts. Steam reviewers flagged that switching characters means re-setting weapons and skills. Stay on one Swordsman kit until presets land on the roadmap.
