War of Genesis: Idle Loot Watch before you spend

The overlay hook is real. So are Mixed reviews, paid permanent buffs, and opening-week account bugs.

Early Access Review

War of Genesis: Idle Loot is a free-to-play Steam idle RPG from New Normal Soft Inc. Steam Early Access began 10 September 2026. Opening-week Steam reviews sat Mixed, with roughly 58 percent positive from a few hundred Commanders. This is an honest take on that build: what the overlay does well, where money talks, and which bugs you should know before a Diamond pack looks harmless. It is not a hit piece. It is not a puff piece.

This is not mobile War of Genesis: Idle Heroes and not Softmax’s 1990s SRPG. No shared saves, no shared codes, no cross-play. If you are about to type a phone coupon, stop at mobile versus Steam.

The overlay hook works

The pitch is a 3D hero on a transparent desktop, no combat controls, stages clearing while you work. That fantasy is already in the client. Park Ice Pendragon or Jane Shore in a corner, pick Swordsman, Archer, or Mage, and the character keeps swinging. Fourteen gear slots fill. Ancient Ruins through Ice Castle exist. Battlefield tabs for Arena, World Boss, and Raid exist. Equipment Forge Combine and Dismantle exist. The Steam Community Market path exists. For a desktop companion, that is a complete toy, not a trailer pretending to be a game.

If you have wanted a prettier cousin of taskbar idle RPGs, the presentation is the reason to try the F2P download. Windows 10/11 64-bit only; hardware notes and the unsigned executable warning live on system requirements. First-hour setup is Getting Started. Living with the window is How to Play.

Tradable loot is a feature and a trap

Listing a drop on the Steam Community Market is the differentiator. It costs a Diamond. Players report about one Diamond every four hours. Listings cannot be retrieved today. Steam takes fees. A creator sold a Tier 4 sword for a little over $2. Jewels move. Plenty of listings will not. You will not quit a job. You might fund a different Steam sale if you farm attentively and read Steam Marketplace before you click List on Market.

The trap is designing your whole session around wallet funds. Bag space still stalls AFK. Combine still wants same-grade piles. A Commander chasing $2 swords will skip Equipment Forge and then wonder why the overlay froze. Market is a side output. Farming remains the loop; see AFK farming.

Pay-to-win is not a smear, it is a shop tab

Cash-shop permanent buffs for ATK, DEF, EXP, gold, and drop rate exist. Arena, World Boss, and chapter push all feel those numbers. Mixed reviews already call the game a better-looking clone with a loud wallet. That complaint is fair even if you still enjoy the mascot. F2P can play, join an Alliance, and collect participation rewards. F2P will not match a Commander who bought the permanent combat package and then also bought convenience.

Developers say the full version stays free-to-play with some paid items such as passes, and that Early Access exists to tune a player-driven Market. Believe the overlay. Be skeptical of any promise that paid power will shrink. Rank your class on the class tier list knowing shop buffs sit outside those trees.

Launch bugs are part of the score

Opening days included login loops, an unsigned exe that Windows 11 users tripped on, and double-purchase reports. Those are Early Access caveats, not ancient history you should ignore on day three. If Steam Login does nothing, if a pack billed twice, or if Battlefield tabs refuse to switch, read launch issues before you spend more. The roadmap talks convenience, economy tuning, and extra farming areas. Mailbox retrieval for listings is rumored there. None of that is a patch date on a calendar.

Eighty-two Steam achievements already describe a long idle: synthesis thousands of times, LR ranks in Training Ground and Ability Unlock, Apocalypse chapter gates. The skeleton of a deep farm is present. The polish is not. Developers floated a short Early Access window “roughly up to two months,” flexible. That is a hope, not a coupon.

Who should leave this running

Try it if you want a desktop mascot, you accept auto-combat, and you like listing a jewel after work. Spend money only after the client has logged in cleanly for you. Skip it if you wanted a real-time action RPG, if Mixed P2W notes already kill the mood, or if you expected mobile Idle Heroes to carry over.

Verdict: a promising overlay with a real Market hook, undercut by paid permanent power and messy first-week account issues. Download free. Keep the wallet closed until your own login screen behaves.
